Ella is a film and theatre maker based in NYC, she was born in Barbados and raised in Uganda, Kenya and England. Ella received her MFA from Goldsmiths, University of London.

In theatre, Ella is the director of Chain Playwriting Lab: developing diverse voices in American theatre. Chain Lab is supported by the Theatre & Department of Cultural Affairs NY. Ella has written and directed Banquet of Chestnuts (George Wood Theatre, London) and directed original works including, Neil Simon's Last Hit (Workshop Theatre); Falling In Love With Mr Dellamort (The Slipper Room) and Broken Pieces (Winner: Best Theatre production at Planet Connections).

In film, Ella has been awarded a Women Make Movies Fellowship for her documentary, The Global Village Project, following the lives of refugee teenage girls resettled in Atlanta. The documentary was distributed via BBC Worldwide and Al Jazeera. Ella has written and directed short films, Earth Beneath My Feet (Best short: Milan Film Festival, Melbourne Indie Film Festival, Sydney World Film Festival); SOFIE (Best Short: San Francisco Black Film Festival); and web short, Blind Date (Best Short: New Classic Cinema Film Festival), which was distributed via DirecTV. In January 2018 Ella was chosen for Creative Minds in association with Sundance Institute, where she developed her script Car Battery.
